I want to get dressed every day! I have felt so much more energized on the days I’ve put on a great pair of pants or a dress. Even if my clothes are cozy, getting out of my sweats or PJs is an intentional way to get in a good headspace for my work-from-home days!
Funny enough, my fashion resolution starts after my clothes are actually worn. Honestly, I really have to be more intentional about my laundry routine! Enough with letting the bin overflow and then lumping everything into the wash at the same time. I keep shrinking nice sweaters and ruining my towels because I put too much in at once. Being more consistent, reading the labels, actually air drying, and more frequent trips to the dry cleaner! My beautiful clothes deserve better.
This might sound a bit crazy, but I haven’t owned a pair of denim for over two years…but for good reason! I really hope I’m able to find the perfect pair for me this year since it’s been quite the search. Aside from that, I’m really hoping to be able to dress up every day rather than wearing the different sweatpants I’ve been living in throughout quarantine.
No more children’s shoes for my size-five feet just because they’re cheaper. The proportions are weird and I need to face facts. And no more buying shoes in a size six because they “almost” fit. They don’t. Lint roll before leaving the house (I’ve got a white rabbit). Get a raincoat! I live in Portland, my god. And stop being so hard on myself for bad clothing/life choices.
As someone who loves to put the perfect outfit for any occasion together, 2020 was tough on me in that there were no occasions. It’s the first year I’ve bought (begrudgingly): a flannel shirt, shoes that aren’t Crocs but look like Crocs, a sweatsuit set, and long-sleeve t-shirts. For next year, I want to get comfortable with the idea that these pieces still serve a purpose, even if it’s one I’m less excited about. My self-care and comfort is just as important as a night at a gala.
I want to continue to be more conscious of where and how my clothes are produced, and that includes veering away from synthetic fabrics as much as possible. I also love all my skirts and dresses, and since those can be worn year round I may just be giving up pants in 2021.
With all the sales around the holidays, I get really overwhelmed and flustered and feel like I need to buy everything! I took a look in my closet the other day and it’s literally overflowing. Needless to say...hoarder tendencies. In 2021, I want to be intentional about donating or reselling pieces before I start buying more. Starting fresh and making room in the closet (to refill it, obviously!) always feels so, so good.
My fashion goal for 2021 is to rock every outfit from my WFH sweats to my head-to-toe glam looks and not speak negatively about my outfit. Just simply rock it!
In 2021, I want to do two practical things and one frivolous one. First, tackle my “I can sew/fix/alter that” pile, which seems to be the majority of my closet. Second, is to make sure that the items that are no longer serving me go to mutual aid groups here in Seattle. And lastly, I want to embrace my inner Xena (yes, warrior princess) by getting dressed for the day with a look that is equal parts costume and armor. In other words, have fun but mask up, y’all.
My goal for the upcoming year is to make the perfect capsule wardrobe. I feel like this is the time in my life where the pieces I invest in now can stay in my closet year after year. I’m keeping an eye out for the perfect oversized denim jacket, some staple tees, and the edgiest pair of black boots I can find.
I have a closet full of wonderful garments for "special occasions" that I never wear. If 2020 has taught me anything, it is that life is all about perspective—if you think about it, your life is special simply by virtue that you exist. I want to make each day a special day and wear my fabulous shoes, that glittery dress, and my beautiful statement coat whenever and wherever I please.
I one-hundred percent want to channel Lenny Kravitz from the ’90s going into 2021. I am determined to make 2021 my swaggy prime—clashing textures and unconventional beauty all the way!
I’m giving into my inclination to wear soft cozy things all year long. I keep gravitating to the same sweater week over week, so I’m going to optimize my wardrobe with things I want to wear all the time.
Considering that I own a chic secondhand store, my three favorite designers that I’ll continue to seek out in 2021 are Victoria Beckham, Mara Hoffman, and Brother Vellies. They’re all women-owned and also very cool in my book. Overall, “less is more” is my life motto. Modern, urban, and chic. I’m going into 2021 with my chin up and thinking about my classic dress code—always shopping small, sustainable, and stylish! Staying true to yourself is what matters most.
My goal for the year of 2021 is to only buy what I need, secondhand. Ideally, I want to incorporate more versatile pieces like clothes I can sleep in, lounge in, and layer with existing (and more normal) pieces. I want to either repurpose or donate anything that no longer fits so that it doesn’t end up in the landfill. At the end of 2020 I also started a new laundry routine with Branch Basics and have been air drying my clothes more often. This way, my clothes stay in tip-top shape and the fibers don’t get that loose/fuzzy look that’s caused by the dryer.
I want to design and create my dream pants! I’m tired of all my bottoms being cropped on me. Style-wise, I want more Mick Jagger meets Balenciaga haute couture archives in my life.
Aw yeah!
