Some designers know from childhood that fashion is their calling, but for Lindsay Nicholas, the path was a little less direct—and all the more interesting for it. After a successful career in marketing and advertising, she followed her instincts (and a Parsons degree) to launch Lindsay Nicholas New York, a line of modern, elegant pieces made for women on the go who want to look sharp without overthinking it. Think silk trench coats you’ll treasure and trousers that strike the perfect balance of comfort and polish.
We chatted with the designer about what inspires her, her new shop in Dallas/Fort Worth, and her timeless favorites from the Lindsay Nicholas New York collectsion.

How did you get started as a designer?
I came to fashion a little later in life, after a long career in marketing and advertising. Living in New York during 9/11 prompted me, like so many others, to re-evaluate what truly made me happy. I enrolled in night classes in Fashion Design at Parsons, later earning a degree there and another in Image Consulting at FIT. While I continued working in marketing for another decade, that time was invaluable—it allowed me to live the life of my client, the international businesswoman, and deeply understand what she really needed: clothes that seamlessly go from boardroom to boarding gate.
What inspires your process?
My design inspiration comes from everywhere—women who know how to effortlessly put themselves together, the energy of street style, museums, magazines (always in print!), and even something as simple as wrapping paper at a market. I’m a sponge for ideas, and I never run out of them.
Describe your brand in three words:
At the heart of it, Lindsay Nicholas New York is Modern, Elegant, Intelligent—pieces that are timeless, versatile, and designed for women who want to look sophisticated without sacrificing ease.
In what way is Dallas is similar to New York, fashion-wise?
Dallas/Fort Worth, much like New York, has women who really dress. There’s a pride in presentation here that I adore. In an age where so many have defaulted to athleisure, Dallas/Fort Worth women embrace style as part of their daily lives—something New York women have always done, too. Getting dressed in the morning should be one of life’s great joys.
What are some of your pieces that you're especially excited about right now?
As for current favorites, I’ll always champion our Silk Leopard Shirt Dress, a best-seller that feels as good as it looks—sophisticated but effortless.
The Faux Rise Pants are another essential, delivering the comfort of a higher rise with the look of low-rise.
I’m also excited about the Wellesley Sweater, spun from Italian merino with a swing shape that flatters everyone.
And finally, our new Newbury Trench—an elevated silk-and-wool piece that one client loved so much, she retired her Burberry trench. It’s the perfect example of what I strive for: elegant and intelligent design.
Aw yeah!
