French designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin launched his eponymous label in 2018 with a focus on sensual beauty and genderless design. In his collectsions, tonal color palettes meet youthful cuts for a fresh take on ’90s minimalism, recalling Tom Ford’s famous tenure at Gucci during that decade. However, de Saint Sernin’s pieces don’t feel at all dated. He manages to make super low-rise pants and miniskirts feel timeless and elegant. Even more, he magically reinvents wardrobe staples (those pieces you dream about but can never find) from a buttonless “button-up” to a sleek cardigan or a sharp bolero vest. For effortlessly sexy clothes and pieces that emphasize and celebrate the human body in a casual, cool way—Ludovic de Saint Sernin is your man.
Gabe Gordon is a textile artist and designer currently pursuing his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design. Locally sourcing discarded yarns, Gordon creates one-of-a-kind space knits in casual, asymmetrical shapes. His pieces are cozy and playful, with features like raw seams and cut-outs. His latest collectsion, “Tight Squeeze,” draws on the “dream-like nature of grief through a tension between warmth and constriction”(Maimoun). With this philosophical perspective, Gabe Gordon’s knits perhaps become more universal—not only stretching to fit the bodies of many, but also conveying a deeper human sentiment on the difficulty of letting go.
Cool, effortless, confident, artful. These are the words that come to mind when thinking of Maryam Nassir Zadeh and her eponymous line of womenswear (and menswear coming soon for SS21!). After establishing herself with relaxed, yet timelessly modern and feminine collectsions, Nassir Zadeh dove into new territory starting with her SS18 collectsion. Strappy tops and bikinis layered with dresses and knitwear set the precedent for more bohemian and eccentric collectsions to come. Her SS21 collectsion (available soon) further catapults this offbeat trajectory, showcasing her first menswear/unisex collectsion alongslide beachy womenswear.
Toronto-based Michons Marigot founded her namesake label in 2013 with an eye toward the bold and whimsical. Vibrant colors, custom prints, and exquisite treatment of leather and fur are a few of her trademarks. Her pieces possess a truly original quality and have the character of a cherished archive piece. In fact, Marigot often utilizes deadstock materials in her collectsions, further contributing to their one-of-a-kind nature. In addition to this sustainable practice, Marigot’s garments are made-to-order and products of slow fashion.
Founded in 2012 by friends Marie-Louise Mogensen and Blandine de Verdelhan, Baserange is the one-stop brand for all your basics. The European line calls both Denmark and France home, with Mogensen and de Verdelhan working separately in their respective countries. The design duo sought to fill the gap between lingerie and sporty undergarments, deciding to create timeless and easy styles for everyday wear and later amplifying their selection to include minimal ready-to-wear. The brand prioritizes using organic fabrics and sustainable practices for pieces that will last many years. Check out Baserange’s latest selection of trademark silhouettes, like the Yumi jumpsuit and Apron dress below.
