Produced in Los Angeles, Skim Milk and WHOLE are two parts from the same founder, Josh Scholl. Skim Milk’s graphic tees are designed with this motto in mind: never shy away from being edgy or provocative. And WHOLE follows a similar ethos, but with a greater focus on utilizing luxury fabrics with subtle yet striking designs. We reached out to Scholl for more about the birth of his brand and all the cheeky humor behind his unisex styles.
I started Skim Milk in 2009 and my higher-end line, WHOLE, launched in 2016. The sarcasm and art elements are simply a visual storyboard from my brain—I love dark humor and left-of-center music and art, all things bizarre and weird. I have a personal credo: "There's nothing more offensive than boring." To keep things fresh and interesting, I also do a lot of collaborations. We’ve done capsule collectsions with VICE, Fila, The Germs, Sasha Grey, Portugal the Man, Saint Hoax, Ministry, and an upcoming one with Daniel Johnston. I also put a lot of time and attention to photography of the lookbooks and our videos. I've had the pleasure of an ongoing partnership with Gorsad (who did a great job shooting the images for the SS21 collectsions).

These specialty intricate hand dyes were designed to mimic the liquid light shows made popular in the '60s to enhance the euphoric experience. Each shirt is done by hand and totally unique with a sewn in "WHOLE" rubber logo2 patch on the breast.
