Plastic fashion is a timeless trend: think bakelite resin bangles from the early twentieth century or ’60s mod dresses in transparent vinyl. These manmade materials lent a youthful attitude to fashion, one in which “the fake” was more interesting than “the real.” Costume jewelry, PVC raincoats, and transparent heels—these are as fresh now as they were in their heyday.
