Aside from America, there’s no country I’ve spent more time in than Italy. I fell in love with its ancient wonders and discovered the romance of the Renaissance in college. Then, for most of my 20s, I spent four months a year taking groups on tours up and down the country. I’ve driven around Sicily and Sardinia in search of secluded beaches. I’ve eaten my way through nearly every region. And, most recently, I eloped in the tiny town of Tivoli just outside of Rome.
In so many ways, Italy has my heart and has been instrumental in shaping my outlook and fashion sense. To live la dolce vita is to embody the sweet life. To take things slowly. To spend quality time with the people that matter doing the things you love most. It is almost entirely contrary to the way we’ve been taught to live in America where we hustle, use up every moment, and prioritize productivity at the expense of serenity. We all could use some dolce vita right now.
To dress la dolce vita is—to use my personal fashion ethos—chic and easy. Silhouettes are billowy. Fabrics are soft and breathable. There’s very little ornamentation aside from some bows and ties. Think: a lot of dresses and florals and linen. It's all so...fresh.
