Playing Dress Up

As a kid, playing dress up was a favorite pastime. Costumes, unexpected clothing pairings, wild hair and makeup—all were tools for getting into character, having fun, and discovering myself. Slipping on those “fancy” pieces was particularly fun. “But why save velvet and sparkle for a couple days a year?” I asked. Today, minidresses and stilettos at 9 am wouldn’t phase us, nor would jeans at a symphony performance, so, what does dressing up look like in 2022? Yes, fashion rules seem old-fashioned now, but you have to admit, wearing a silky number, putting feathers in your hair, or bling on your hands just feels special. And that’s what playing dress up is all about: having fun and feeling your best.
