It's no small feat to run a fashion boutique in Beverly Hills for over 30 years, but Madison Maison owner David Assil has done just that. The '90s saw the store stocked with big-name European designers like Prada, Miu Miu, Marni, Balenciaga, and more. But by 2019, David was ready to launch his own line. Using his years of experience in the fashion world, he started designing Italian-made shoes under the brand Madison Maison. A collectsion of apparel, handbags, and accessories quickly followed.
So how does this shop-owner-turned-designer keep in step with the times? Get to know this longstanding brand and shop their wares, below.
You launched your brand in a very different era and it’s a true feat to have storefront for over 30 years. How have you adapted with the times?
David Assil: By always adapting to the times with our buy. Listening to what the clients are telling us as well as watching what trends are selling and which are not.
How did you transition from carrying designer brands to crafting your own line?
I saw that the designer prices were shooting up while the quality was dropping, and the distribution was also growing much too rapidly above and beyond demand.
Tell us about the production process for your shoes. How do you come up with a new style? Where are your shoes made?
I travel to Italy one month out of every six months and go to shows, then I drive throughout the country to visit tanneries and factories which I use to make my product. Everything is handmade in Italy in small artisan factories: shoes, bags, belts, and clothing. New styles come from pieces I believe are lacking in the marketplace as well as putting pieces together that I find inspiring—such as a new heel coupled with a great last and finished off with beautiful leathers.
What do you predict we’ll see in shoe trends this spring?
Small heels on feminine silhouettes, tennis shoes still…more on heavy side and metallic.

What’s next for the brand?
We just launched our line in a famous showroom in Milan. We will build on the wholesale by giving the buyers four things: great wearable fashion, amazing quality unsurpassed in the marketplace, comfort second to none, and prices that are reasonable.
