Prioritizing the casual items in my wardrobe as the most important pieces I have is a truth I’d like to accept gracefully this year. For two years, I have been telling myself that what I wear at home or to run short, masked-up errands is inconsequential. Unfortunately, when you get joy from the self-expression inherent in fashion, this decidedly practical approach has been—simply put—a bit of a bummer. This includes taking care of the pieces I have, of course, but also investing in quality pieces that make me feel like myself, even when I am just playing Switch at home.
Block out some intentional time during the week to let myself create! In the midst of learning to sew and alter clothing this past year, I acquired the habit of impulsively thrifting some less-than-desirable pieces because “they have a lot of potential!” Putting those projects into motion, however, has been the kicker and I’m determined to carve out that space to bring my garments back to life so that I can truly cherish them.
I hope to make 2022 feel more graceful. I want to wear things that not only look great, but make me feel great. I want to pick high-quality fabrics, like silk and satin, and come back to my large collectsion of skirts that have been sitting in my closet the past few years! Also, it’s time I put my handheld steamer to better use.
I feel like last year I was either dressed to the nines or living in leggings and sweatshirts. For 2022, I want to focus more on the middle ground, putting together everyday outfits that feel as luxurious as a black-tie affair but are also easy to run errands in.
Dress things up, literally. As someone who spent the majority of 2020 and 2021 in sweatpants, what better way to step up my outfits without giving up the comfy factor. Only adding versatile dresses to my cart from now on!
I’m going to try my best to get out of my sweaters, joggers, and hats. Ever since becoming a mom, it’s been tempting to always slip into casuals when I have to juggle work, sleepless nights, and a demanding toddler (without a full-time partner)! I admire all the moms who manage to look put together, and that’s what I’m aiming for in 2022.
